Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. has been selected as a host city for the international exhibition EXPO 2017.
Energy of the Future is the theme of the EXPO 2017. The government of Kazakhstan set the highest objectives for the project in Sustainable Development, Architecture, Master planning, and Urban and Landscape designs consistent with the ideas of the “Third Industrial Revolution” developed by American economist Jeremy Rifkin.
In addition, the project brief called for an object to become the Symbol of the EXPO 2017 in Astana.
Kann Finch worked in collaboration with LAVA on this exciting project located on a 173ha city block in Astana encompassing 25ha of dedicated EXPO – city zone exhibition spaces and supporting infrastructure with strategically positioned at the intersection of the city’s major Green axis and Nazarbaev University the 47 storey centrepiece and the Symbol of the EXPO 2017 – the Evergreen Tower.
On remaining 148ha area of the site are located Business Centre, Nazarbaev University Research facilities and mixed-use development zone. The ESD cutting edge technologies include close loop city system, decentralised renewable energy production, controlled resource management and rapid fuel cell transport – all of which are based on the 5 Pillars of Sustainable Future.
The project has been designed beyond the EXPO 2017 event – it represents a Master plan for the people of Astana and its guests with urban space of place making identity.
