- Adopted by Government, infrastructure under construction
Following an international design competition, KANNFINCH were appointed by the Caspian Engineering Group to produce a Master Plan and a series of detailed urban centre development plans for four cities covering an area of 70,000 hectares of rural land to the south of Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Our scheme is based on best practice urban design. The four cities, ‘Gate’, ‘Golden’, ‘Growing’ and ‘Green’ were designed to be sustainable urban settlements with a total population of 350,000 people. They have been designed to incorporate a full range of work opportunities and services to allow them to be self sufficient, with areas designed to be within walking distance of primary or secondary public transport nodes. Each city has been developed to house a range of specific functions: ‘Gate’ is an urban centre with retail and commercial uses; ‘Golden’ is a university, medical and sports precinct; ‘Growing’ has hi-tech industry and an intermodal logistics-free port; and ‘Green’ is a hub for hotels, resort islands and theme parks.
This project has been undertaken with a team of local consultants wand the G4 Design Institute to ensure compliance with local authority codes and requirements. In addition, we have worked closely with international real estate consultants CBRE to develop a marketable 30 year land use phasing model.
